Hermes Berrío (b. 1980, Colombia) is a Miami-based artist whose work explores the vibrancy, contradictions, and complexity of contemporary urban life. Through painting, sculpture, photography, and installation, his practice draws from everyday people, objects, and experiences, transforming the ordinary into reflections on memory, identity, migration, and belonging. He received his BFA from New York University in 2005 and has participated in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Australia.
Berrío’s work is held in prominent public, institutional, and private collections, including the Miami-Dade County Public Art Collection in Miami, The Bunker Artspace in West Palm Beach, the Brasilea Foundation in Basel, Switzerland, the Stefan Simchowitz Art Collection in California, and the private collection of filmmaker Ron Howard.
Berrío is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including three Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grants (2017, 2022, 2025), the Ruth and Harold Chenven Foundation Grant (2019), the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship (2024), and Miami Individual Artist (MIA) Grants (2023, 2024). He was a resident artist at Fountainhead Studios in Miami from 2019 to 2024.
